Eastern Canada Youth Conference

Eastern Canada Youth Conference is a grass-roots, youth-led movement of Seventh-day Adventist students and young professionals who aim to inspire, train, and mobilize a generation of Adventists to hasten Christ's coming.

About Us

Since 2009, the Eastern Canada Youth Conference has been a pioneer for inspiring and equipping young people to become more active in the work of evangelism. ECYC isn’t just a conference, it is a missionary movement. In addition to our yearly conference, we hold weekend events in churches throughout eastern Canada to train and mobilize young people. We also organize and execute mission trips, giving young people opportunities to be active in mission work. ECYC is an independent supporting ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada (SDACC).

Our Mission

Eastern Canada Youth Conference is a grass-roots, youth-led movement of Seventh-day Adventist students and young professionals who aim to inspire, train, and mobilize a generation of Adventists to hasten Christ’s coming.

Our Principal Objectives

  • Organize an annual Bible-based training conference
  • Organize rural and urban mission trips in eastern Canada
  • Empower the youth of Eastern Canada for useful service in evangelism at work or in school
  • Network the youth of Eastern Canada with other like-minded youth and youth ministries

Our History

In the fall of 2008, God began to bring like-minded young people together who were envisioning a revival of biblical godliness among their fellow Adventist youth in Eastern Canada. This diverse group of young people, included African Canadians, Caucasians, Koreans, and Chinese with diverse educational backgrounds consisting of health sciences, nutrition, business, and fitness. Together, this team of young people shared one goal: to see a revival of biblical godliness among Canadian Adventist young people to ensure the fulfillment of the Gospel Commission.

Through the inspiration of the words of Christ, for people to go, teach, and prepare the world for His second coming (Matthew 28:19), youth from across Ontario came together to begin the ECYC. With a shared desire to organize annual Bible-based training conferences that would empower Seventh-day Adventist youth to dedicate their time to service through evangelism at work or in school, a small group of youth began planning for the ECYC.

The goal was to host a Bible-based worship event organized by young people with the purpose of calling other Seventh-day Adventist youth in the Toronto area to arise to biblical godliness. From January 2-3, 2009, at the Willowdale Seventh-day Adventist Church, the first youth convention, Eastern Canada Youth Weekend (ECYW), took place. The ECYW had an attendance of over 80 committed youth from across Southwestern Ontario, eager to learn more about what God has prepared for their lives. The weekend theme was ARISE!...And He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise! (Luke 7:14). Sebastien Braxton, the keynote speaker, addressed the relevancy for youth to utilize their time wisely because we only have just this one time to do whatever is needed to be done.

On Sabbath, youth attended seminars by Jonathon Zita, George Cho, Pastor Philip Lee, Miguel Han, and Benjamin Mora. Youth were encouraged not to just witness, but to become a witness and to arise to victory, while preparing to meet their King. Youth left the ECYW feeling inspired and motivated to finish the work that Christ started, and to hasten His second coming.

As of February 2009, the ECYW became the ECYC, with new objectives to organize an annual Bible-based training conference, to empower the youth of Eastern Canada for useful service in evangelism at work or in school, and to network the youth of Eastern Canada with other like-minded youth and youth ministries. After months of planning and dialoguing with Conference leaders, youth and youth leaders, and a number of youth-led ministries, the ECYC was underway.

Make Me a Servant
Jesus Christ is the humblest of all. The Creator of the universe, who being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men to save us. Jesus, being an ultimate example, has also called us to serve fellow men. This convention will be the showcase of what does it take to be the servant of God.

Theme Text
2 Timothy 2: 24:25 – “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth.” NKJV

Seminars

Media + Social Network Evangelism - Society today is driven by media technology. The use of internet,   television networks, computers, cellphones etc. is prominent among young, old, Christian and non-Christian individuals. Media can be a curse or a blessing depending on how it’s used. In this seminar, we will discuss about how media technology can be utilized as a venue to do service for God and help increase knowledge about Christ’s love. Come learn how to glorify God through media ministry.

Understanding World Religions: Sharing the Everlasting Gospel - With Islam on the rise, Buddhism and Hinduism dominating Asia, how can the everlasting gospel be shared with the world in this generation? In order to reach the world, Adventist Youth must first understand the world. Come and be equipped to answer the hard questions concerning various world religions. See what sets Seventh-day Adventism apart. Win the confidence of those who follow these various traditions, and gain decisions for Jesus Christ. "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." - Matthew 24:14

School is more than School - Joshua 1:9- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” When we think about Evangelism, do we often associate a specific time, date and place for sharing the gospel? Or do we realize that everywhere we go, in everything we do, God has called us to be a servant and share his love.  As we focus on Evangelism at school, we will learn tools on how to reach out to fellow students and teachers remembering that, even there, God is with us.

Canvassing 101 - Have you ever thought of going door to door but then became too scared to go? Or even worse, have you ever gone and been rejected? Well this seminar is perfect for you. Inspiration tells us that, " The canvassing work, properly conducted, is missionary work of the highest order, and it is as good and successful a method as can be employed for placing before the people the important truths for this time." (6T chapter 39) It is time that the youth of our day enlist themselves in this most noble work, the question is how? Join us as we explore how to do successful door to door ministry, and how to build up the courage to do so. Learn the secrets to one of the toughest forms of evangelism, and prepare to experience the many benefits you will receive from this extremely satisfying work. Hopefully you will be inspired to try it out for yourself as you see the great need for this line of evangelism!

Multiply from Within – As you ponder on why some churches are growing and others are not, you have a dream to grow your church. You are ready to go but have so many questions you don't know where to start! How do I develop a strategic plan? What kind of outreach and marketing should I do? What type of people should I work with? So many questions, you just want a little help getting pointed in the right direction. Then this seminar is for you. We will focus on evangelism funnel and evangelism cycle, the blueprint that was used in Gateway Adventist Centre in Melbourne, Australia, the fastest growing Adventist church.

Leading Your Loved Ones to Christ – Everyone knows someone who hasn't accepted Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and many of us are concerned about the salvation of our loved ones Perhaps he/she wants nothing to do with Him, or perhaps you haven't told your loved one yet what Jesus has to offer and how He has changed your life for the better. This seminar will focus on how to reach the hearts of your loved ones and how to lead them to Christ.

From Health to Him – Everyone wants better health. In fact, Christ used the health approach to draw people to Himself when He was doing His ministry on earth. Offering a free health seminar can bring people into the walls of your church who would otherwise not come.  And the transition from teaching physical health to spiritual health is almost seamless.
